What’s In My Makeup Bag?

Well, if being a competitive figure skater for over 15 years has taught me anything, it’s how to choose makeup. I’ll admit I’m one of those girls who tries out every new makeup product on the market (with many facial-faux pas stories to boot). The result of my obsession? My gigantic orange makeup bag chock full of things I  never wear (apparently full-on dark smoky eyes are not exactly the style for Catholic high school who knew?). I am happy to say, however, that I have come up with a system to handle my stuffed-to-the-brim orange bag.

My solution? I keep a few staple items in my smaller traveling makeup bag and throw in a couple add-ons each morning before I leave the house. This way I can tie in whatever I am wearing to my makeup look and get some use out of the plethora of items I’ve acquired over the years.

My Staples:

1. Estēe Lauder Double Wear Concealer

I never go anywhere without this little magic wand in my pocket or makeup bag. I slick it on each morning under and on my lids as a brightener, concealer and primer all in one.

2. Benefit the POREfessional PRO balm

I use this little miracle cream as a primer all over my face each morning. It truly does reduce the appearance of my pores and helps control that shine-tastic forehead of mine. I also love how it evens out my skin tone right off the bat.

3. Tarte Powderful Amazonian Clay Pressed Mineral Powder

I have tried many a face powder and this one has worked the best for me. The actual powder doesn’t spontaneously combust into a dust cloud when you touch brush to makeup like most the others did. Instead, the powder stays put on my brush and onto my face. It covers all the things I want it to hide but leaves my face feeling fresh and clean without that cakey residue.

4. NYX The Curve black liquid eyeliner

The curved handle on this little guy makes for a nearly effortless application. For anyone who has ever tried liquid liner, this is a godsend. No more smudgy messes in the morning, just a clean, thin, jet black line on my top lids stretched out to little wings on the sides (I guess you could say it’s my signature look).

5. Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire

This is a smooth and creamy pencil liner that works perfectly for my bottom lash water line. If I’m in a hurry and don’t want to fuss with liquid liner I use this on my top lid as well. I also swim with this liner even though it isn’t waterproof. It tends to smudge ever so slightly without running creating the perfect “effortless” beach day eyeliner.

6. Benefit they’re Real! black mascara

This is by far my all-time favorite mascara, and trust me I have tried them all. The rubbery bristles separate and lengthen my lashes while the mascara fills them in and adds volume. The double duty action just can’t be beat.

7. Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm Stick SPF 20 in Peach Kiss

Last but certainly not least, I throw in this little guy. Aside form truly keeping my lips baby soft and providing much-needed sun protection, I am in love with this color. It is subtle but perfect for the cherry on top to my daily makeup look.

With these staples, my face is always prepped and ready to take on the day. I keep my travel makeup bag in my car as well just in case I need a last minute touch-up.
